The zero Watt bulb, Nothing is ZERO.

It is called as zero watt but actually it is not. it is. These small Incandescent bulb have power rating of 10 to 15W.

In the earlier day electro mechanical energy meters are used instead of digital meters to record the energy consumption.

Electrical consumption was recorded by counting revolution of a disc through mechanical counters and for this a minimum current is required to be flowed through the meter. Now the current drawn by these bulb is very small to grt the disc rotating and hence the energy consumption is not recorded by these electro mechanical energy meter.

Hence it seems that bulb have no power consumption and hence they got the name zero watt bulb.

Now with the digital meters even a small current drawn by 0.1V LED is also detected and hence the zero watt bulb is a misnomer
